Italian federation officials convened Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola directly to talk about succeeding Roberto Mancini as national team coach.

The meeting brought together technical staff including board members Paolo Maldini and Leonardo.

Despite persistent English media speculation about a Premier League return, Guardiola apparently showed no personal desire for the role.

He earlier indicated his unwillingness to take on the job amid reports of interest from Italy.

Currently, no decision has been made about the managerial position.
